Hey Ashley! Good to hear from you and thank you for taking the time to write down a good handful of points. I didn't touch upon some of those things in this post, and appreciate the statistics you've lent. It's been a long time since I've played competitive sports, but one thing I know, and that you do too with your athleticism is that once the competition begins, it's anybody's game... that's how I always viewed it. I've played on teams which have upset and been upset. You can never take for granted the skills and ability of the other team or the fact that you may be off your game on the day you need your skills the most. Sometimes your best just isn't good enough. And when that happens, be a sport and be a gracious loser. Don't make your loss bigger, more significant than the other team's win. Let them have their moment.

You know my email or can msg me on FB if you want to chat further. Appreciate your time and comments! : ) Hope all is well over there in J-land.

Cheers,
Shanna

Nice story there Shanna. Just a couple of things.
The ego of Americans isn't anything new but you'll find that sports brings out the worst in us all when supporting out teams. Just talk to any New Zealander about the All Blacks and World Cups.

History would show that up until this game JP have lost every game they have played against the US and even the 2 warm-up games before the WC which would give the US the favourites tag and the confidence going into this game but while JP did have the right to be in the final, being in the final and winning the final is 2 different things which now the US will understand more. The US should've won this game with more shots on goal and possession which a good team should convert to more goals. Just like the game commentators said that the US should win, the players also thought the same which is why they dropped their game a few times throughout the game and in the end the pressure got to them.
JP did deserve to win but I guess whether it was because the US gave it to them or they handled the pressure better and just took all the chances that came their way will depend on which side you are supporting. My thoughts are that it is a little bit of both in this case.
