Bhishm Sahni,is an account of sufferings of people during a time when India was fighting for her independence and rise of Pakistan was inevitable.
Its a very beautifully written and really gives a goosebumps while reading. This is certainly a wonderful depiction of the period just prior to partition and people's constantly changing fears and motivations during that time. The writer was a thoughtful and clever man. 'Tamas' is not just a story of events put together, its hearts bleeding on paper... One cannot witness such hatred and extreme violence amidst a community that once lived like petals in a flower, distinct yet together! It is shown with intricacy how the riot is the result of careful political planning, such as in the 1984 I found this book to be a depressing, yet accurate tale of India’s history. I do not think it is a very good piece of literature, but Tamas should be read and studied by anyone who wants to explore a perspective on the partition other than a British one.
